The title of this track refers to the original name given to a convict settlement in country Australia, which is now called Orange. The name Blackman's Swamp was first given to the town in reference to the agricultural settler John Blackman. The irony being of course that he was a white settler and calling the town Blackman's Swamp alludes to the reality that the land will always belong to the indigenous Wiradjuri people no matter how many fences, houses, sheep, cattle and jails white people place there. The lyrics explore the psychological and emotional turmoil of an individual believing he is cursed by being born upon land drenched in innocents blood and his sorrow at not being able to shake this spiritual affliction no matter what he does or where he goes. It is an emotional response to history and in no way meant to be political.
